This time, the Budapest Bár band will be joined by Dóri Behumi, Bori Rutkai, Vera Tóth, Gyuri Ferenczi, László Kollár-Klemencz, and Misi Mező.

Budapest Bár rose to become one of Hungary’s most popular bands through its Gypsy-music-style arrangements of songs that are both heart-wrenching and heartwarming. The group owes its magical appeal to its outstanding musicians and iconic singers from the Hungarian rock scene. Originally conceived as a one-off album project, Budapest Bár has been operating for 19 years with a unique lineup of thirteen singers—perhaps that is precisely why it has become such a sought-after concert band, performing regularly at festivals and on major stages. The roots of the unique style that has become Budapest Bár’s trademark reach back to the world of Budapest coffeehouses in the 1920s and 30s. They reinterpret well-known and beloved songs by blending the foundations of Gypsy music with elements of jazz, pop, rock, klezmer, and various other genres.

The original aim of Róbert Farkas—founder and leader of Budapest Bár—was precisely to breathe new life into the genre of coffeehouse Gypsy music, keeping old traditions alive while renewing them. Thanks to the band, long-forgotten melodies have once again become part of the public consciousness and youth culture. They have dusted off old songs, revived forgotten ones, given familiar tunes a fresh sound, and recently composed a number of original songs as well. Eras, cultures, styles, and generations converge in their performances—perhaps this is why the band is loved by young and old alike, having become a favorite across generations.
