One of the most important formations of contemporary psychedelic noise rock, Acid Mothers Temple led by Makoto Kawabata, is back! The essence of this "soul collective", which is considered special even within the rather extravagant Japanese art-rock scene, is experimentation: in addition to the changing membership from album to album and the almost countless sub-formations, the best example of this is their live performances. They swirl in them krautrock and noise-punk, Hendrix and Stockhausen, inward-looking astronaut psychedelia and ruthless noise, as well as the grotesque humor characteristic of the country.
Acid Mothers Temple (and subsequent offshoots) is a Japanese psychedelic band, the core of which formed in 1995. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians, but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with only a few core members and frequent guest vocalists. The band has released albums frequently on a number of international record labels as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family record label, which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective.
