Australian singer Ziggy Alberts with Hungarian ancestry plays in Budapest for the first time

Once he backpacked across Europe with his whole family, and also packed his guitar and a box of CDs: thats how he had his first ever shows in Europe. Since that, Ziggy Alberts has been a regular on the old continent. The singer-songwriter's soft folk songs are collections of honest stories inspired by travel, nature and personal experiences - stories of a life lived independently, always according to his own values. The Australian artist also boasts Hungarian ancestry, which is why his first Hungarian concert on 1 May 2023 at the A38 Ship promises to be so special.

Ziggy Alberts is one of Australia's most successful independent artists. His heartfelt stories have captivated audiences around the world and his songs are listened to by 1.6 million people a month on Spotify. But the artist from the other side of the world is not so far from our home: her mother is Hungarian and was 9 years old when she and her family moved to Australia. Although Ziggy grew up by the ocean, in 2015 the whole family - seven in total - came together to backpack train to train across Europe. It was then that Ziggy first came to Hungary and also, when he gave his first concerts abroad, randomly finding opportunities through acquaintances, whether in a tiny café or the backyard of a house. But by chance he was able to play at a Norwegian festival and soon after he returned to Europe to tour.

This independent, self-organising approach has characterised his entire career, and he has now achieved the dream of many musicians and authors: he has his own music and book label, Commonfolk Records and Commonfolk Publishing, ensuring that he can tell his ever-expanding story on his own terms. Five albums have been released so far, with a follow-up coming in November, Dancing In The Dark, a genre Ziggy has dubbed 'Future Folk'.

Ziggy Alberts will be hitting the road again with a new album of songs and a 'best off' with his Rewind Tour, which will arrive in Budapest on 1 May on board the A38 Ship.
