The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (NL)

Emerging from the shadows between sound and cinema, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (TKDE) crafts music that feels like a forgotten dream—one suspended between the surreal and the sublime. Founded in 2000 by Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, the project began as a live reimagining of soundtracks for silent film classics such as Metropolis and Nosferatu. What followed was the birth of an ensemble that redefined atmosphere itself.
Over time, TKDE expanded to include Hilary Jeffery (trombone, effects), Charlotte Cegarra (vocals)and Eelco Bosman (guitar). Their collective improvisation and cinematic aesthetic created a distinct sonic identity — one that bridges ambient, doom, jazz, post-rock and experimental electronica into an otherworldly form of auditory storytelling.
The group’s live performances are renowned for their hypnotic visual and sonic experience, often accompanied by abstract film projections that mirror the ensemble’s spectral mood. Their influence continues to resonate through modern dark jazz and experimental electronic circles, marking TKDE as one of the genre’s most innovative and enduring collectives.

Mansur (NL)

MANSUR is a transcendental electronica project initiated by Hungarian vocalist Martina Horváth (The Answer Lies In The Black Void, Thy Catafalque) and experimental composer Jason Köhnen (The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Bong-Ra).
Balancing on the threshold between musical fantasy and reality, MANSUR fuses Hungarian folk traditions with modern electronic sound design, interwoven with the arabesque tones of the Arabic oud. Organic instruments and ritualistic rhythms dissolve into immersive, cinematic soundscapes that feel both ancient and
futuristic.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (NL)

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is a mutant mix of what has inspired us musically, and especially visually.

TKDE started off as an audiovisual project back in 2000, influenced by old silent movie directors such as Murnau and Lang, but also the animations of Jan Svankmeijer or the films of the Quay Brothers.
Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, started creating soundtracks to old silent movies (Nosferatu, Metropolis) and progressively composed new music inspired by these images which eventually became TKDE.

Trombonist Hilary Jeffery (originally from the UK, residing in Amsterdam) joined in 2004 and introduced Swiss born Nina Hitz ...
The debut album 'The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble' was recorded with this line up, and was released on UK electronica label Planet Mu early 2006.

TKDE expanded to six when Eelco Bosman and French vocalist Charlotte Cegarra joined the ensemble in 2007. In 2009 Chrome Hoof's Sarah Anderson added the ensemble as violinist.
