BACK

From inception in 2004 and embarking on a steady journey of live performances soon after, Tribali captivated audiences with their mystical concoction of ethnic, contemporary and traditional music, immediately catapulting them as one of the premier acts in Malta. Founder members, seasoned musicians and friends Peter Paul, Antoine and Adriano, in conjunction with Jean Pierre and Nik together with the addition of vocal powerhouse Eliza, have unified, matured and further diversified the multi faceted and multi cultural resonance that has today become synonymous with the Tribali trademark. A trio of studio albums, a critically acclaimed compilation, exhilarating live performances in prestigious and leading international and local festivals such as the Byron Bay Bluesfest, Glastonbury, Ancient Trance World Music, Earth Garden and the Farsons Great Beer Festival, various awards, encouraging global press reviews and blog platforms, have all been instrumental for the band to continue to fuel their passion for the distinctive blend of music, while generating an electrifying and dynamic atmosphere through their knack of engaging and stimulating crowds within performances, creating a dedicated and ardent fan base.

Relentlessly delving deep into their creative nature, the band is fully focused and committed to continue to push the boundaries beyond the norm of musical genres and strive to persist to bring their collective incessant zeal and passion for music to entertain wider audiences worldwide. While the collection of ethnic instruments and numinous sounds and rhythms will always remain at the epicenter, today the sitar, didgeridoo and percussion blend effortlessly with distorted electric guitars, chunky bass lines, violins, trumpets, dance oriented bass drums and hi hats, mic controllers and hypnotic vocals resulting in a tight knit and high caliber act. These collective musical bearings culminate into a vibrant and intricate exhibition of world music, pop, psychedelic, dance, reggae, ska, rock and blues creating an inimitable sonic vibe. This allows for an ability to amalgamate within essentially any musical genre, which has lead to performing alongside diverse and world class acts such as Moby, the Prodigy, Faithless, Ziggy Marley, the Wailers, G3, John Butler, Wolf Mother, Crowded House and the Specials to name a few. Bluesfest festival director and music guru Peter Noble lists Tribali within his top 10 to hear, going so far as quoting Tribali as ‘one of the best bands to EVER play Bluesfest’.

Tribali cordially invite you to join in their full power colourful spectacle and unite with audiences to DANCE LIKE CRAZY, JUMP AROUND AND GET CONNECTED TO OUR SOUND.

The Tribali experience culminates in all its worth during the band’s performances, with an array of movement, colour and dynamic sounds that leave the audiences enthralled for days.

The versatility in musical genres present in their songs is a key contributor to the band’s concerts. Indeed, the spectrum of styles ranges from classical to rock, to reggae and psychedelic, allowing the band to attract audiences from all generations.

The band prides itself in liaising with their artistic director in order to ensure that stage set up varies from one performance to another, thereby providing the crowd with a new visual experience each time.

These elements together with Tribali’s efforts to leave ample space for crowd interaction during their concerts leaves the audience feeling like they participated in making the live experience an unforgettable one full of positive energy.

Members of Tribali are also involved in voluntary work. At the centre of these initiatives is Peter Paul who works hard to support a number of different projects in Malta and overseas. He does so mainly with children through drum workshops aimed at raising money through donations while also introducing the children to music and the sense of rhythm.

One project of particular interest is focused in a remote area in the Philippines called Bataan. The local children have to face daily challenges brought on by a number of social and economic problems leaving them without any proper opportunities to develop into productive and self-sufficient individuals. They are exposed to an array of detrimental on-goings such as prostitution, drug abuse and child labour.

The voluntary project in Bataan focuses on providing these less fortunate individuals with food and a proper education, in addition to being taught music by professional Maltese and Philippine musicians. The project currently supports close to a hundred children who are all trained to read music and to sit for exams, while most of them also form part of a children’s orchestra.

Furthermore, Tribali also support a child day care centre in the Kenyan slum areas where it is considered common practice to leave the children at home alone to fend for themselves from a very young age while the mothers go out to work.  This voluntary project is one which is gradually growing due to a very high demand. Apart from providing these children with food and drink, the project also offers these children the emotional and educational care and support they need.

Aside from these international projects, drum workshops are also organised for people with all sorts of special needs. It is truly a great thing to come to the realisation that every person may connect with others in a positive way through music and rhythmSummer 2016 represented the band’s most successful one yet, being offered the opportunity to perform in Turkey, Hungary, Finland and Sicily. Together with yet another promising European tour for this Summer in places including Hungary, Portugal and Spain, this local group also have taken on board a change in the band’s line-up.
With the departure of Jean-Pierre last September Tribali very much welcome the introduction of the young and talented Andrew Francica who will take the place of Tribali’s lead guitarist and sitar player.
