Tomasz Stanko

Tomasz Stanko (PL)

The ingenious Polish trumpet player Tomasz Stańko is such a cultic personality of East-European jazz as Miles Davis was of the American. As member of the second big wave of Polish jazz in the seventies he joined the European jazz movement, and formed a quartet with the legendary violin player Zbigniew Seifert. He worked and played together with such outstanding personalities as Krysztof Penderecki, Don Cherry, Chico Freeman, Cecil Taylor later Dino Saluzzi, John Surman and Nils Landgren. In the nineties he signed to Garbarek’s, Pat Metheny’s and Keith Jarrett’s label, the ECM, and became one of the most successful musicians of it: his mystic, balladistic performance and electronic experiments made him one of the greatest living jazz musicians of our time.
