Swing Manouche Project (HUN)
The group was formed in 2005, with the aim of playing the so-called „manouche swing”, or „gypsy swing” style, following the musical traditions of Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France. Our repertoire includes compositions both by Django Reinhardt and contemporary manouche musicians. The basic setup of the group comprises three guitars and a double bass, occasionally complemented by an accordion, clarinet or violin, played by guest artists. We regularly perform in clubs both in Budapest and in the country, and on social events (Café Déryné, Tajtékos Napok Restaurant and Café, Pótkulcs). We have taken part in several festivals, both home and abroad, to great popular acclaim. Swing Manouche Project won first prize in 2007 at the Salgótarján Amateur Jazz Band Competition. On 7 February, 2008, we were guests of the programme „Evening Showder with Sándor Fábry” on RTL Klub television. In May 2008, we made a tour of the so-called „Visegrád” countries, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, to considerable acclaim. Our mission is to make the oeuvre of Django Reinhardt and Sinto Gypsy music culture more popular in Hungary.
