Grencsó István

Grencsó István

István Grencsó is fifty. Hence the reason to celebrate this jubilee with a concert in two parts. In the first you will hear a compilation of his greatest tunes from his earlier albums, while in the second a complete new material, compositions that will be released later this year.

István Grencsó has been one of the most outsanding personalities of the Hungarian jazz for decades.

His career started in 1979 with the Masina band, but he became more broadly known in the 80ies as member of the Dresch Quartet and as partner of György Szabados. In 1985 he founded the Grencsó Kollektíva, which has stayed since his number one formation. He has recorded in sets from trio up to big band formations, in which he mixed the elements of jazz, etno, pop, rock, even old Hungarian dance pieces in a unique way. He has played among others with Peter Brötzman, the Rova Saxophon Quartet, the Makám, the Kampec Dolores and the MAKUZ, has a band in Armenia, toured and promoted the new CD of Kampec Dolores in Japan in December with great success.
