Gelka
Their debut ‘Less is More’ released on the Nightmares on Wax label, Wax On, in 2008 paved the way for the flurry of Wax On remixes and collabs, over 150 compilation releases on labels such as Warp, Ministry of Sound, Sony and Om Records and a key role on the legendary Café Del Mar label racking up an impressive 17 song releases on their iconic chillout complications.
Once the downtempo Hungarian duo made a conscious decision to write a sophomore album they also felt the need to reinvent their sound. Noting that not only had the downtempo/ chillout genre itself had moved forward in many ways since their last album, so they also too had moved forward. Injecting some new influences of pop and bass oriented flavours into their songs, creating an elegant but aerial new route to their sound with a nod to classic song structures, Stardust Memories was born. The title of the album, ‘Stardust Memories’ itself expressing Gelka’s inspiration and direction for the album, and on a personal level for the duo, referring and representing their last 3 years.
The release contains 15 tracks which create an expansive bond between live and electronic music which for the duo reflects the current state of downtempo influenced music. The sounds are far more complex with wide range of effects and creative samples from everyday noises, but on the other hand the overall picture is more relaxed with the analogue guitars and the highlighted vocals, evoking several electronic impressions from the last 3 decades.
They collaborated on the album with the former Nightmares On Wax singer Ella May aka Phoenix Pearle, the Zero 7 singer Mozez, the Dj Vadim collaborator Sena and with a bonus remix the R&S artist Synkro also appears on the album.
