Closer To Curtis (NL)
According to many reviews in Dutch and English magazines, there is only one way to find out how Joy Division must have sounded when Ian Curtis was still alive..... Go see “Closer to Curtis” !! The resemblance with the real stuff is scary. Just close your eyes just a little and find yourself back in 1979/1980.......
Closer to Curtis was meant to be a one time project only and it took place in the Netherlands during Spring 2008. Closer To Curtis played 14 fabulous shows in a role.
First the movie “Control” (about the life and death of Ian Curtis, lead singer in Joy Division) was viewed to the audience after which the band played a one hour show with Joy Division highlights. After the gig, local DJ’s would play their favourite ‘Eighties’ tracks. A perfect night to dive deep into the heart of Joy Division’s music.
The band received many requests since than, to ‘please play again’, but the band refused. Untill December. A request came from A38 in Budapest to play their show at April 23rd. 2009. The reason that the band finally agreed was the fact that Anton Corbijn, director of “Control”, would also be there to open an exposition of his photographs and talk about Control.
On their way up and back from Budapest, the band will do two stops. One in Prague where they will play a show at Palac Akropolis (April 22nd) and the other in Munich (April 24th).
If you want to see and hear the band play, go visit their myspace website and view some fantastic ‘you tube’ movies of their show in Amsterdam and see them record live in a studio, or click the other links for more, like a great black and white shooting of the ‘final’ gig in Utrecht....
Go see them, cause this might be your last chance to ever experience how a Joy Division concert must have sounded back than.
