Balogh Kálmán

Balogh Kálmán

Balogh Kálmán is one of the greatest masters of the cimbalom, the Hungarian hundred-string virtuoso instrument played by sticks, and he is also probably the person who has done the most for the international recognition of this unique instrument. He plays from classical music to contemporary, from klezmer to jazz. He is a celebrated star from tiny village concert-halls to the Carnegie Hall. Recorded almbums with David Murray, collaborated with the Dresch Quartet, Muzsikás, Méta, István Márta, Mitsoura and Ando Drom among others from Hungary. He recorded Brahms’ Hungarian Dances and Bach’s d-minor partita with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Founded his own band, the Gypsy Cimbalom Band, that fuses all different styles in its fantastic programme.
