badfocus is an emerging project of a Prague-based producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Prokop Korb. His music represents an abundant sonic fantasy powered by the endeavour to expand his own musical language.

While still being in his teenage years, badfocus embodies a genuine creative spirit with an endless hunger for new soundscapes, beats and melodies. Despite originally coming from a jazz background, badfocus experiments with various genres such as electronica, classical music, hip-hop, or indie pop. He thus creates a completely unique world in each of his songs, which are freed from genre conventions. The main link between the mixture of genres is the indented emotional impact on listeners.

While listening to badfocus you can hear parallels with artists and projects such as Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds or Bonobo, but you will definitely recognize his original sound that crystallizes with each released song.

Apart from his own project he’s also an active member of a dream-pop band teepee, with whom he performed at the biggest European showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag and supported the British duo Seafret on their European tour.

'Back in the day I’d be sitting at school daydreaming about the next beat or composition to be recorded as soon as I get home – I bet you can easily imagine how badfocus came along’ says Prokop, a 19-year old high school student who’s about to graduate but at the same time keeps on composing new music with a relentless dedication. This approach is reflected in the yet released material and future plans, as he has already released his first ep1 in the spring of 2020 and his debut album wallflower in September of the same year, from which he successively introduced singles wallflower, defy and neurones which were both put into rotation of Prague’s Radio 1. Often dealing with insomnia, it’s mostly nights when badfocus arouses the peak of his creative process, while reflecting on his mental experiences, daydreaming and the outside world.

The album wallflower is self-published and contains a total of 10 tracks. The record and its visuals were significantly inspired by the ideas of naturalism as they try to capture undistorted reality. In the musical sense, it strives for genre ambivalence and atmospheric, ambient, yet catchy soundscapes. The creation of the album itself refers to the approaches of the Bauhaus school, mainly due to reflection of the craft approach in the overall creation process. 'The production of my music is largely intertwined with mixing and mastering, which means that the sound elements, which are normally not as important, are key to the overall composition of my tracks', adds badfocus.

His age, determination, unconventionality and multi-genre approach undoubtedly foreshadow a career which will be exciting to follow. Hence, his motto 'first the debut album and then the graduation'. So, buckle up and get ready for a ride to atmospheric, ambient, yet catchy and unforgettable soundscapes.
