After Crying
Twenty-two years, eleven albums, countless concerts of After Crying prove it to be possible – either by contemporary or by ageless means – to create a world where “serious” and “light” as musical categories are not exclusive. Their music is a case in point that by creatively employing a variety of means, ranging from acoustic chamber music to modern rock and pop, symphonic orchestration and classical or contemporary forms a colourful but coherent image can be produced to convey a consistent world view.
The ensemble has been consciously forming its values since the beginning, regarding the greatest figures of European culture as their role models. . Their influences include the works of Bach, Beethoven and Bartók in the classical era, as much as Emerson, Lake & Palmer and King Crimson from our age. The composers of After Crying have always sought to create music that, by using today’s common musical idiom, is understood by many, yet is still able to convey profound message on serious subjects at the highest artistic standard. This unique contemporary classical music addresses both the audiences of its own age and eternity. Since 2000 the symphonic concerts of After Crying in Hungary and abroad have achieved fulfillment of the composers’ classically conceived aspirations, while the “eMeRTon” pop-music award (“Band of the Year, 2004”) demonstrates After Crying´s excellent command of today’s common musical idiom, the channel the band have consciously chosen for communication.
