A stunning singer and her hilarious indie band from Spain will make a huge gig after having toured whole Europe and New York on this special night in the company of great Hungarian bands and djs.
Born in Mallorca of Macedonian and Andalucian descent, resident of Barcelona and New York, Maika Makovski’s career to date has been as diverse as her heritage. Singer, songwriter, musician, actress and visual artist, Maika won her first professional recognition at the age of 15 and her first awards in 2002 before even releasing an album. Her first two albums "Kradiaw" (2005, PAE) and "Kraj so Koferot" (2007, Wildpunk Records) were critically acclaimed and Maika toured extensively throughout Europe, with El Mundo proclaiming her "the best female artist to come out of the underground rock scene in years." In 2009 John Parish (producer of PJ Harvey, Eels, Tracy Chapman...) invited Maika to his Bristol studio to record her 3rd album “Maika Makovski” (2010, Origami Records) which features collaborations with Jim Barr (Portishead) and Billy Fuller (Robert Plant). With her band (David Martínez on drums, JC Luque on bass guitar and percussion, Oskar Benas on guitar and backing vocals) Maika toured the album to ecstatic audiences in London, New York, Chicago, Austin Texas, and throughout Spain during 2010/11. El Pais described her as “a muse of the underground and one of the most authoritative voices of Spanish rock” and the band were nominated for 5 Premios Ufi (Independent Music Awards), winning best artist in June 2011.
We Are Rockstars is a Hungarian electronic rock band from Budapest, founded in 2009 by György Ligeti (lead vocals), Tamás Faragó (guitar) and Csaba Kovács (drums). The final line-up was completed when Tamás Szijártó (keyboards) joined the group in the summer of 2010. The band’s name is a bit of a trivia, but if you are familiar with the UK band ‘Does It Offend You, Yeah?’, then you have your answer. The band plays electro rock, flavoured with the unique sound of the 60’s beat pop, 80’d synth pop and modern indie rock. Each band member brings his own influences into the We Are Rockstars sound. Their influences include The Beatles, Depeche Mode, Primal Scream or The Killers. If you listen carefully to their unique sound you may pick up on The Doors influence in a few songs too. The band’s debut album (Let it Beat) is released on iTunes on 22nd of november 2011.
