Hiperkarma is a band formed in Budapest, Hungary in 1999. The project was started by founding member Bérczesi Róbert who previously was member of the band Blabla. After Blabla split up, Bérczesi went on to create the first post-Blabla album mostly alone this time under the name Hiperkarma.
After some minor changes in lineup, the lineup consists of Bérczesi Róbert on guitar and providing vocals; Frenk (Torma Gábor) on drums and providing backing vocals; Laca (Varga László) on bass guitar; FX (Bacsa Gyula) on keyboard; and Stevenson (Kis Tibor) on guitar. Long-time percussionist Zacsi (Zaják Péter) left the band in 2007.
They reunited in 2011 and have been playing powerful gigs for packed audiences.
Mantra Porno was founded on the summer of 2001 – not without any premises as songs had been shaping for a year by then (though then nobody knew what they would become). By the end of 2001 the very first song, E 101 was born – in cooperation with Judie Jay – and also released as the first evident result of the band´s existence. (EstFM classics vol1. selection)
The first concerts took place in 2002: instrumental pieces, typical traditional rock line-up (drum-guitar-bass) flavoured with electronic base and wind instruments. Later the constant singer has coloured the programme. Since then the band has been playing regularly in clubs and festivals.
In the spring of 2003 the first record, titled Ganja Police, was released by CrossRoads Records. One of the specialities of the LP – of which the band is quite proud of – is the cover decorated with unique elements. Four pieces of Ganja Police also have videos, which can be seen on VIVA tv and can be downloaded from the site: E 101, The Prophecy, Ganja Police, Mantra Porno. The band is currently working on their second album, titled Fine Light Days.
Mantra Porno's music is a mixture of the 70's miscellaneous music and today's electronic sound. Mix some trip-hop, funky, a bit of deep, danceable beats and also rock and you get: vintage elektrofunk. The musical path is far from rigid, as the members are mainly motivated by experimenting brand new sounds, instruments and by mixing the styles again and again in even more astonishing ways. Moreover, the different attitude and different taste of the musicians intensifies the problem of defining the songs. The electronic base is enriched by Fisha´s rock-style guitar themes. Marci´s breakbeat drumming and Jocc jazz-based bass tunes serve the rhythmical cord. Pala´s saxophone play though based on classical music still is full of improvisation. Bandi´s keyboard phrases – which one may find insane, or may remind them of C64 computer sounds – also brings interesting tones to the final result. All these are topped off by Évi´s trip-hop-style, caressing voice. The whole mixture is uniquely united by Zoulu at the audio mixer.
