On September the 20th the float will leave the shipyard in Nyergesujfalu, then the construction works will continue in Ujpest and finally in the beginning of November the new building of the A38 will open its gates for the visitors. Most of the financial support for this new construction was provided by the European Union.

Most of the financial support for this new construction was provided by the European Union.
The first building of the A38 was a cargo-carrier ship built in the Ukraine as the 38th example of the Artemovsk type, hence the cultural venue’s name. It was completely rebuilt into a top-quality concert place with restaurant, bars, studios and offices.
The new expansion part is a completely new building planned by the same architects, which has been designed to harmonize with the industrial character of the main ship it will be connected to, and the more geometric features of its surrounding and the practical needs that it will have to meet.
This new part with a length of almost fifty, width of fourty and inside height of four metres will provide space for a variety of artistic activities making the A38 an almost all-round contemporary art centre and venue. Its main hall will be used as a unique space for art exhibitions, multi-media installations, film presentations, lectures and smaller conferences providing a special panorama overlooking the waves of Danube. It will be accessible by four bridges from the Ship, and its main route will provide easy access for the disabled too.
On its roof there will be a huge terrace for the visitors, and it will also be ready to serve as a dock for fluvial and scheduled touristic boats that are hoped to start running soon as part of Budapest’s traffic development due to the overburdened roads along the Danube, that will be able to present special touristic qualities provided by the traffic on water.
The new exhibition space will open with a retrospective exhibition presenting the artistic work of Miklós Miltényi, the artist who was the designer of the A38 Ship and whose pieces of art and drawings can be seen on many points of the Ship.
The barge built mainly of steel and concrete will be connected to the right side of the Ship. Its production was financed in 85% with the support of the European Union, while the rest 15% were provided by the Ship.
The new enlargement will be launched on September 20th, then taken to the dockyard in Budapest for final works, and it will be finally harboured to the A38 Ship in the beginning of November.
